A preventative-focused rescue course that builds awareness, team communication, and early intervention skills to manage and prevent dive emergencies.
Prerequisites
PADI Advanced Open Water certification (or equivalent) and minimum age of 12.
Cost
R9000. Only cylinder and weights rental included.
The DIR-Oriented Rescue Diver Course takes a preventative approach to dive safety, focusing on awareness, team communication, and early intervention to avoid emergencies before they happen. While you'll still learn essential reactive techniques—such as unconscious diver recovery, in-water rescue breathing, and diver assists—the emphasis is on recognizing and addressing potential issues early. Training begins with a comprehensive pool session, reinforcing buoyancy control, gas management, and situational awareness before progressing to challenging open water rescue scenarios along Cape Town’s Southern Peninsula. By the end of this course, you’ll have the skills and mindset to be a proactive, capable diver, ready to handle both prevention and response with confidence and precision.
